What phone/sim to get travelling to Ireland? to call in Ireland and to Australia?

I live in Australia and will be going on a long holiday to Ireland soon. I don’t know much about phones but I will need a phone and sim that will allow me to call around Ireland and also to family in Australia from Ireland. Does anyone know how I should go about getting this? I’m using Vodafone currently.
